The 17th century brought about major changes in philosophy and science with people such as the genius Isaac Newton, referred to as a natural philosopher; societies in previous centuries had no concept of the word ‘scientist’.
By the end of the 17th century, the world witnessed a scientific revolution. Science became an established mathematical, mechanical and empirical body of language.
Despite the new inventions of machinery that flourished, man’s quest for perfection and refinement to shape materials by hand could not be matched by machines.
A great example is Antonio Stradivari who created legendary bowed stringed instruments of the highest perfection: An ultimate luxury statement with the potential to create ecstasy of pleasure to a group of people if placed in the right hands. Even to this date his instruments are highly admired, valued and still played by the best professionals.
Times have changed since the 17th century and the numerous activities that we can get involved with are countless. What is rare are the individuals who break the barriers to establish new limits and, the truly gifted individuals that posses an unsurpassed talent to create the best tools or objects with their hands to make this possible.
These individuals clearly prove that the ultimate statements are created by us and not by machines. As a modern example of our times, HIGHER POETICS is honoured to present you the work of Roy Stewart.
Roy’s experience and profound understanding of the world that surrounds him is manifested as Surf Boards that everyone can enjoy and be stimulated in multiple ways.
